Classic Iron Blue Dun Fly

A fly from Horrocks book of 1848. After it leaves the water larva, it remains in the state shown in the illustration for about 3 days and then changes to the Jenny Spinner. It is one of the smallest flies used by the angler, but very useful. The male wears a brownish-red crown on its head; the female is also crowned, but so small that it is barely visible. It is usually found on the water on cold days from April to mid-June.
